Ever questioned what is a clay bar and why do I need to clay my car? Or even how do I clay my car? Well, before any polishing or application of coatings, glaze, sealant or wax the surface must be thoroughly cleansed using a clay bar. This is Part 2 of our 6 part series where we demonstrate the steps to a full detail following the detailing flowchart.

Following the Chemical Guys Detailing Flowchart we started by washing this Nissan GT-R to remove all the loose contaminants to get it ready for the next step which is a clay bar service.

Step 2: Clay
Using the Medium Clay Bar along with Clay Luber we are able to remove all the embedded pollutants that can't be removed during a normal car wash. Running your hand against a contaminated surface feels gritty and rough which is when a clay bar is necessary. At first the clay bar will drag and sound rough but as you pass the lubricated clay bar over the surface it will pull out the pollution and begin to glide and the surface will become smooth.

Now that the Skyline is slick and smooth it is ready for the next step, polishing!
